Blog 5- Interview 1 Reflection

1. What is the most important thing I learned from the interview?  Is there anything I would do differently for other interviews?

The most important thing I learned from the interview was that the makeup industry isn't limited to just one broad category, but that it is an industry filled with many different types of creativeness. Without this industry existing movies wouldn't be able to portray characters that require special effects to give off the vibe the director wants. This interview showed me that makeup holds a special power that many people don't realize or appreciate that much. To be honest, there isn't anything I wouldn't really do differently, I felt like I addressed some great questions and got awesome responses.

2. Did I get additional resources and contacts?  What is the most useful?  Why?

Before I walked in I knew that RMA had makeup classes but what I didn't know was the many types they offered. They range from special effects to basic makeup artistry to airbrush application. Nicole Oceguera, the interviewee, suggested that I look into talking to more people that are recent graduates because they have more time to share what they learned and be able to demonstrate what it means to be an upcoming makeup artist while they move up in the industry. I am definitely interested in taking at least one of these classes to help me with my senior project and to get a better understanding of makeup artistry.

3. What makes my interviewee qualified to help me?

Nicole Oceguera graduated from Ruby Makeup Academy a year ago and is now spending her time working with RMA as a beauty stylist but still continues to expand her knowledge in the makeup industry by taking classes on Special Effects Makeup to learn how to make and apply latex and create flesh like wounds or burns. Ms. Oceguera is also very knowledgeable about what it means to be a professional makeup artist by explaining that using good products and practicing proper brush sanitation will leave a great impression on interested clients or customers. She's had hands on training and learning experience to be able to apply what she's learned onto a persons face whether that's beauty or special effect makeup.
